Prices have risen by between £100 and £1400, depending on the model. The greatest price rise is on the cleanest model, the the 2.0 TDIe, which emits 112g/km of CO2. It now costs £26,555.

However, with the lowest priced 316d and 318d not expected to be available at launch when the new BMW 3 Series goes on sale next February, Audi is expected to hold a price advantage over its key rival initially.

Our Verdict

Audi A4

The Audi A4 is an improvement over the previous version, but isn't good enough to topple the BMW 3 Series
