Just hours after the A5 coupe is leaked, its hot cousin pops up online
21 February 2007

Just hours after photos of Audi's Geneva show star, the new A5 coupe, were leaked onto the internet, similar images of the range-topping model, the V8-powered, 340bhp S5 have been sneaked out.All the information leading up to the Swiss show has indicated that Audi's hot S5 would not appear there, but would follow shortly afterwards. However, in the light of these picture leaks, and of BMW's confirmation that it will preview the next generation M3 coupe at the show, executives in Ingolstadt may reconsider their plan and put the S5 on the Geneva show stand alongside the A5.These shots reveal that the S5's muscular makeover will be noticeable, if reserved. Grille and bumper badges, quad exhaust pipes, 18in alloys and Audi's trademark S-brand chrome door mirrors and the subtlest of subtle body kits will set the car apart from its rangemates. The S5 should be better distinguished by its driving experience though, thanks to the advanced platform that underpins the new A5. Oddly, it's unlikely to be the car Audi offers up to challenge the new V8-powered BMW M3; that task will fall to the 414bhp RS4 saloon, which is likely to be much closer to the new M-division 3-series on maximum power and performance.
