VW tweaks the Touareg

The Volkswagen Touareg's always been better looking than its Porsche Cayenne cousin, and VW wants to keep it that way, with a mid-life facelift.

It's a subtle updating, with new lights and a silver-coloured grille as on the Passat, Eos and recently facelifted Touran, but the front wings have also been changed. The rear end and interior get mild tweaking, with new lights and bumpers, different seats and an optional surround-sound Dynaudio system.

As well as visual changes, the Touraeg also gets revised anti-lock brakes and a new electronic stability programme, which claim to reduce braking distances by a claimed 20 per cent and reduce the risk of a roll-over.

The engine line-up remains the same as before. The revised Touareg goes on sale at the end of January; expect to see them outside your nearest school before February half-term.
