BMW's luxury flagship gets all-new turbocharged V12

V12 power has returned to the BMW range, with the company’s flagship BMW 760i and long-wheelbase 760Li, unveiled at the Shanghai motor show.

The V12 in the BMW 760Li and 760i is an all-new 6.0-litre, turbocharged unit, putting out 536bhp, while 553lb ft of torque is available from just 1500rpm.The engine is combined with a brand-new eight-speed automatic transmission.

BMW claims a 0-62mph figure of just 4.6sec and a combined fuel economy figure of 21.9mpg (an improvement of 4.5 per cent over the previous V12 7-series) for the standard wheelbase version.

The 760Li has a wheelbase that’s been extended by 140mm to increase rear passenger legroom.

Prices or exact weights for the new long-wheelbase 7-series flagship are as yet unconfirmed.
