Jaguar will launch a luxury Daimler model to top the company’s range early next year.
Based on the new long-wheelbase XJ, the Daimler version will be fitted out with a more sumptuous interior trim and new grille.
The company has reacted angrily to reports that it plans to kill the Daimler brand. ‘It is totally inaccurate to say that we have abandoned the Daimler name,’ said a spokesman.
In fact, Jaguar will eventually launch a range of bespoke Daimlers, rather than basing the cars on existing Jaguars.
