Currently reading: Mini models gain new particulate filter and petrol dual-clutch variants
Lower emissions and smoother automatic shifts come with changes made ahead of WLTP switchover

All Mini models will now come with a particulate filter and the brand's recently introduced dual-clutch automatic gearbox is now available with the petrol engines, all to boost efficiency.

The changes come about to ensure that Mini models conform to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), which will replace the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) from September.

With the particulate filter, Mini’s entire engine range will meet the latest Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard. The 1.5-litre diesel engine has featured the filter since March. This diesel variant also has NOx and selective catalytic reduction converters, the latter of which uses urea injection (AdBlue), to further cut emissions.

In addition, the petrol engines, a 1.5-litre three-cylinder and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, are now available with Mini's seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which was introduced earlier this year on the diesel engine in the Mini Clubman and Mini Countryman.

This transmission provides quicker shifts, smoother running and more advanced application of the stop/start system, which can switch the powertrain into a coasting mode to minimise fuel usage. In cars equipped with sat-nav, the ‘box can switch to the most efficient gear for the road ahead.

Mini claims the changes enable the Clubman 1.5 Cooper to achieve 49.5mpg combined and emit 130g/km of CO2. The Countryman 1.5 Cooper, meanwhile, is quoted as enabling 48.7mpg while emitting as little as 132 g/km of CO2.

Along with the powertrain changes, the Mini range is now offered with a new Connectivity Package. This provides real-time traffic information for the sat-nav, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 12-speaker sound system.

Automatic lights have been fitted to the entire Countryman and Clubman range for the first time as well.

A small price increase is being applied to the two larger models, with the Clubman now priced from £21,085 and the Countryman starting at £23,385.

Diesel

should be banned as a fuel for road vehicles. In the Daily Telegraph yesterday, 3 Jul 18, it was reported that  a little girl who lived 80 yards from the North Circular died after suffering from asthma and complications from COPD which the coroner attributed to pollution from road vehicles and specifically particulate emissions. Diesels are killing our children and causing diseases that shorten their lives.

Diesel..

should be confined to farmyard vehicles, this f'cking stuff has caused more motoring problems than petrol has in 100 years..ad blue, nox and DPF...all sorts of crap....how could governments with scientists at their disposal let this crap into the enviroment whilst penalizing petrol drivers is stll beyond me, now we have "stringent MOTs" as a reassurance to a P.O.S technology whilst the HGVs just fit an "ad blu emulator and poision the rest of us...unbelievable.

I am sure that the diesel Mini will have been using a particle filter since Euro 4 and without exception since Euro 6 (01 Sep 15 onwards) and not just since "March 18".  What is new is that it might have added AdBlue to make the emmisions meet Euro 6d TEMP?

Or are you mixing this info up wih the requirement for petorl engines now to have a particulate filter to meet Euro 6d TEMP?
