London's green cabs

Leonardo di Caprio has one; now Londoners can get one home from the pub: a new minicab firm has set up with an all-Prius fleet. With only five cars it is a small-scale operation – but the plan is for a fifty-strong fleet by July.

In another link in the shiny green armour of Toyota’s Prius, Greentomatocars of west London has been set up by Tom Pakenham, a former City lawyer.

The firm’s drivers can all explain the Prius’ technology to customers. A Prius emits around half the CO2 of a London black cab, but the firm has taken things further by offsetting twice their carbon emissions by tree-planting.

Online bookings can be made and are confirmed by text alerts giving the vehicle’s numberplate and driver’s name.
