PEUGEOT’s large SUV features a highly adaptable interior that offers seven independently adjustable seats or up to 2,150 litres of load volume

If you’re looking for a large SUV that offers the flexibility of seven seats and lots of easily accessible load space, then the PEUGEOT 5008 SUV could be the answer.

We loved its rakish design and versatile ergonomics, saying that PEUGEOT deserved to be rewarded for its boldness. “PEUGEOT has broken ranks with its rivals, and shown it better understands what buyers want. Few can match its combination of versatility, style and cabin ambience.”

Now, the Fifth Gear team have got their hands on the 5008 SUV, with presenter Jason Plato delving into the rear to learn just how clever and spacious it can be.

Space delivered in style

The 5008 SUV has been designed to deliver MPV comfort and practicality with the flair of a stylish SUV, and belies its spacious interior with an eye-catchingly sleek design.

From the prominent vertical chrome grille and slim feline headlights, down the long bonnet, to the sporty rear spoiler and distinctive three-claw LED rear lights, the 5008 SUV’s silhouette definitely leaves a lasting impression.

Step inside, and the first thing to strike you is the sense of space created by the 5008 SUV’s extended 2.84m wheelbase. All the second- and third-row seats are separately and independently adjustable, rather than being configured as benches. As a result, passengers get more comfort, while you get a wealth of versatile ways to create more volume or carry longer loads.

Fold the third-row seats down into the base of the 5008 SUV, and you get up to 952 litres of load space, while still leaving room for five people to sit in comfort. You can also totally remove the lightweight third-row seats to deliver an additional 108 litres of load volume – taking the total up to 1,060 litres.

Want to go a step further? Fold down the second-row seats individually, and you get up to 2,150 litres of load space, while a foldable front passenger seat offers up to 3.2m of load length.

With a wide and tall rear door aperture and low load lip, that spacious rear is incredibly easy to access – especially when you add the ingenious Smart Electric Tailgate, which opens and closes with a wave of your foot.

Comfort counts

Inside, chrome accents, mood lighting and contemporary materials lend the 5008 SUV a distinctly premium air, while body-hugging front seats with an optional multipoint massage system add an extra degree of luxury comfort.

MPV turns SUV. Does the new Peugeot 5008 offer the best of both worlds or flawed compromises?

A large panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with light, while the 5008 SUV’s i-Cockpit® blends a compact steering wheel with a highly configurable 12.3in digital head-up display and a 8in high-definition touchscreen for a clearer view of the controls and the road ahead.

Thanks to Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto connectivity with Mirror Screen, you can control apps for navigation, music, calls and texts on compatible smartphones using the touchscreen and voice control. Wireless charging, 3D connected TomTom® sat-nav and a premium Focal audio system with 515-watt output and 10 speakers are also available.

The 5008 SUV’s generous space and clever practicality doesn’t end in the boot, with almost 30 litres of cubby holes and storage bins around the vehicle, as well as lots of clever little features – such as USB sockets, window blinds, shelves, tables, hooks and cup-holders – that make life even more practical.

Refined on the road

The 5008 SUV has been designed to be engaging, refined and safe to drive in equal measure. It’s available with a range of PEUGEOT’s Puretech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines, with a choice of manual gearbox and a eight-speed automatic with Quickshift technology.

A wealth of advanced driver assistance systems – including Automatic Emergency Braking, Active Lane Keeping, Driver Attention Warning, Adaptive cruise control, Active blind spot monitoring, Speed Sign Recognition and Smart Beam Assistance – take the pressure off the driver, while six airbags (including full-length curtain airbags) give added protection for passengers.

PEUGEOT has also made navigating tight car parks easier, with Park Assist and Visio Park 180-degree camera.

If you do head off-road, Advanced Grip Control® offers an alternative to traditional 4x4 systems, letting you pick the best drive mode for the conditions – whether it’s mud, sand or snow – while Hill Descent Control helps you creep down steep inclines in a controlled manner.
