Rolls-Royce Wraith road test; Jaguar F-type R Coupé takes on Porsche 911 Turbo S, Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R; buy a used Volkswagen Corrado for £1000, Nissan X-Trail assessed; Bertone's greatest hits

This week’s issue of Autocar magazine, dated 21 May 2014, includes a face-off between four of the hottest sports cars on the planet.

Britain’s own Jaguar F-type R coupé takes a trio of all-wheel-drive rival in the shape of the Porsche 911 Turbo S, Nissan GT-R and Audi R8.

Does the F-type’s rear-drive technical layout leave it lagging? Or can the awesome power and noise of the supercharged five-litre V8 win the day? All is revealed in our seven-page mega-test, refereed by Nic Cackett.

Our eight-page road test takes on a distinctily upmarket air as we put the Rolls-Royce Wraith through its paces. Can a more sporting edge to the driving experience work in a Rolls? Our expert testers decide.

We’ve assessed plenty of new cars and derivatives this week. The spacious and practical Nissan X-Trail dci 130 leads the way, while the Hyundai Genesis saloon has reached Europe and has been generating plenty of interest. Among the other key cars driven are the Bentley Continental GT V8 S, and Porsche Macan S Diesel.

Elsewhere in the issue, we take a look back at the history of the Bertone styling house, which is under threat of closure, and our man Andrew Frankel learns how to tackle a historic race around the streets of Monaco.

Our used buying guide offers hints and tips for sniffing out a bargain Volkswagen Corrado for as little as £1000, while new versus used pitches a pristine Mini Cooper S against a second-hand BMW Z4 M Coupé.
