V8 diesel Range Rover for £54k

It's too late to start saving if you want the most bling new 4x4 on the block. The revised 2007 model-year Range Rover goes on sale later this month, with prices starting at £53,995 for the new TDV8 HSE.

Finally, the Range Rover gets the diesel engine it deserves, with a 3.6-litre V8 replacing the old TD6. The new diesel promises more power (272bhp and 472lb ft), more pace (0-60mph in 8.5sec instead of 12.7sec) and similar fuel economy, at 25.1mpg.

The V8 petrol and V8 supercharged engines remain unchanged, while all 2007 model-year Range Rovers get a revised fascia, extra storage space and improved air conditioning.

There's also plenty of kit – HSE spec gets you a six-speed auto 'box, air suspension, electric leather seats and 19-inch alloys. The £61,825 Vogue adds posher leather, sat-nav, an upgraded hi-fi and a heated steering wheel, while the £68,825 Vogue SE gets 20in alloys, a rear-seat entertainment system and cooled front seats.

The Rangie's little brother, the Range Rover Sport, is also to get the new V8 diesel engine, and goes on sale later this year.
