Geely-owned brand shows third model based on modular platform shared with Volvo, which goes on sale in China this year

Lynk&Co's third production model, the 03 saloon, has been detailed in new images after its public debut at the Chengdu motor show.

The new batch of shots reveals the all-new car's cabin, which shares design cues with the latest Volvo models as well as the 03's siblings. It sits on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) that Lynk&Co co-developed with fellow Geely-owned brand Volvo, and is due on sale in China from October.

The four-door saloon will at first be focused on the Chinese market, the home of Lynk&Co's parent, but it could reach Europe at a later date. If it does, it will follow the 01 and 02 SUVs, which have already been confirmed for launch here in late 2019.

The 03 will be offered in China with 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, while a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version that’s capable of 40 miles on electric power alone is also due. The PHEV variant is expected to be the launch model in Europe.

Lynk&Co’s models feature highly connected technology, so the 03 is expected to follow suit and come with large touchscreens that offer internet connectivity. The 03 could also get a share button, as introduced in the 01, that allows other users to access the car with a temporary digital key sent to their smartphone.

The CMA platform is also used by the Volvo Volvo XC40 and will underpin the Swedish group’s first all-electric model, which is set to launch in 2019. An electric version of the 03 is therefore also a possibility, but that isn't likely to arrive until the start of the next decade.

The 03's design links to the 01 and 02 are clear. Along with Lynk&Co's signature split-level front end, the car has a traditional four-door saloon bodyshape, demand for which remains high in China, the world’s largest new car market.

When it goes on sale, the 03 will be offered for purchase or acquired via a contract. Unlike PCP deals, Lynk&Co’s contracts are short term, similar to those used to purchase smartphones. Most of the 03’s sales are expected to be through this type of deal.

Although Lynk&Co is still a new brand, it has already received high demand for its models. When the 01 went on sale last year, Lynk&Co said it received 6000 orders in 137 seconds, setting a new world record for the fastest-selling car.

Looks a bit like a Saab

From certain angles it looks a bit like a Saab. (If anyone can remember them???)

.

I think Geely are to be applauded. It may not be to everyones taste, but Volvo would seem to be in safe hands. Compare this to GM's handling of Saab.

Getting to the stage...

will it matter in a few decades what our transport looks like?, will it be the White goods on Wheels, just something we take for granted, sits there quietly in the Kitchen washing , keeping frozen , doing the dishes?, when autonomy finally take the Wheel literally out of our hands and we just announce to the Car take me to and it does it, the inside will become where we will get fussy, comfier seats to watch Tv, internet connection so we can surf or do work on the way to the Office, so, this Car may as well be box shaped in White with a Coffee/Tea Machine and a good dispenser inside, shape won’t matter soon...

yep, with huge emphasis placed on the grille and badge! Trouble is, the manufacturers with long histories will not go that way without a fight - they have something money can't buy.
