New firebrand Merc wagon gets 450bhp and 1500-litres of boot space

Mercedes’ new C63 AMG Estate, pictured above and in our gallery for the first time, will be faster even than an Audi RS4 saloon, with a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds. The new car, powered by AMG’s own 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8, has 450bhp and 471lb ft, and will head up the new C-class Estate range, which goes on sale in the UK next summer. Visitors to next month's Frankfurt motor show will be able to look over both the cooking models and the AMG range-topping estate. Like the saloon, the C63 AMG Estate uses AMG’s version of Mercedes’ seven-speed gearbox and a heavily modified front axle lifted from the CLK AMG Black Series. Like most German performance machinery, it's limited to 155mph flat out, but with a 150lb ft-or-more torque advantage over its immediate German rivals, the C63's accelerative performance on the autobahn will probably be in a league of its own. There's no word from Mercedes on price as yet; MB have yet to confirm an exact UK price on the C63 saloon, but since the four-door is likely to be priced above the new BMW M3 anyway, at around £55,000, the five-door load-lugger could even push through the £60k barrier.
