Alpina has announced that 2015 was one of its strongest ever years, as growing demand from key markets such as the US and Japan pushed annual sales over 1600 units.
A significant 600 cars were sold in Alpina’s native German market alone, helping the brand achieve a turnover of more than €90 million in its 50th anniversary year.
Alpina says the success was partly driven by the launch of its two Edition 50 models, the B5 Bi-turbo and B6 Bi-turbo. All 100 units of the cars, which are capable of reaching a claimed 204mph top speed, sold out quickly, with the majority finding homes in Germany and Japan.
Alpina also attributes surging global demand for SUVs to the strong sales of its Alpina XD3. This was the fastest-growing model in terms of sales compared with 2014, selling 248 units. The D3 and B3 also improved on the year before, with sales of both representing a third of production, while the B6 Gran Coupé sold 280 units.
“There is a steady interest in sophisticated and individual small series automobiles,” commented CEO Andreas Bovensiepen. “Our products constantly receive excellent press reviews for their technology and handling. The awareness for BMW Alpina models is growing, and we are proud of our customers’ feedback.”
Following on from its successful year, Alpina has confirmed that it will launch a new B7 at the Geneva motor show in March. The BMW 7 Series-based super-saloon is expected to feature Alpina’s version of the 750i's twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8.
