New York will host the final two rounds of the 2016-17 Formula E championship in July next year, representing the first time an FIA-run open wheel series has taken place within the city’s boundaries.
Formula E has released an image of the circuit, which will be located in the Red Hook area of the city. Thirteen corners make up the 1.21-mile circuit. In comparison, London’s Battersea Park ePrix track measured 1.14 miles long and had 17 corners.
Although the New York layout could be changed before the first race, it shows that the cars will race alongside the Atlantic Basin with the New York skyline as a backdrop.
Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag said of the news: “To race in New York City is a historic moment - not only for Formula E, but for motorsport in general - and again highlights the philosophy of Formula E to bring fully-electric racing to the world’s greatest cities.”
President of the New York City Economic Development Group, Maria Torres-Springer, added: "Formula E is a perfect fit for New York, and we're extremely excited to be welcoming this event - along with the economic investment it brings - to the Red Hook community."
Sébastien Buemi will start the upcoming season, which kicks-off in Hong Kong next month, as defending champion.
