Hennessey hypercar sets new 270mph top-speed record; VW plans to buy the rest of Scania; 2WD Insignia Country Tourer priced

The Hennessey Venom GT is now the fastest car in the world. The 1184bhp Venom GT hit a top speed of 270.49mph at Nasa's Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, stripping the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport of its title by beating its 268mph top speed. The speed has been noted by Guiness World Record, but at least 30 Venom GTs need to be made before the record is ratified.

Volkswagen is offering £5.5 billion to take control of the rest of Scania. VW already owns 89.2 per cent of the voting rights of the Swedish truck maker, as well as the majority of its capital. The move is part of a plan to align Scania and MAN, another VW-owned commercial vehicle manufacturer.

Vauxhall's front-wheel drive Insignia Country Tourer has been priced from £24,209 for a 2.0-litre CDTi Ecoflex. The car is available to order from March, with prices rising to £27,014 for a top-spec version.

A string of personnel changes means there are plenty of new faces at the top of the motor industry. Mercedes-Benz has promoted current UK boss Marcus Breitschwerdt to take over its European operations, while Honda has promoted Toshiaki Mikoshiba to the equivalent position.

Wrong info

The Venom is not fastest in the world. They did only ONE run in ONE direction and had an American company there to verify the speed. You need to make 2 runs in opposite directions and the average speed is then the speed that counts as the record. And also build a minimum 30 cars as you say. Otherwise just like now, every other tuning garage will hot up a car and claim to be worlds fastest, as many of these tuning shops in US do. And calling it Hennessey Venom GT further emphasizes the car being a tuned Lotus as it's still sold as a Lotus.
