Claimed 109g/km of CO2 and 67.3mpg average

This is the new Vauxhall Astra Ecoflex, which is powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine.

The Astra Ecoflex emits 109g/km of CO2 and has a claimed combined fuel consumption of 67.3mpg. That puts the Ecoflex in the £35 VED road taxc category and business users benefit from reduced benefit in kind taxation at 13 per cent.

Engine economy improvements are assisted by attention to underbody aerodynamics, a dashboard gear change up light and a shutter which opens at low speeds to allow air to flow to the radiator. The shutter closes at higher speeds to reduce drag.

S, Exclusiv and SE trims are joined - for the first time in five-door form - by a sporty SRi version.

The Astra Ecoflex’s goes on sale in April, with a starting price of £17,920.
