And the bills are still coming for those who used tainted petrol

The compensation bill for motorists who filled up with contaminated fuel in south-east England in February has topped £9m.The unleaded petrol, which came from a contaminated storage tank at a distribution depot in Essex, contained silicon. This damaged the oxygen sensors (or lambda sensors) in many cars’ exhausts, which controls the fuel/air ratio. The fuel was sold at Tesco, Asda and Morrisons petrol stations. Around 25,000 people are believed to have been affected, and the final bill is likely to top £10 million.
