Review

When we say 'fastest soft-top', we don't mean the car - we mean the hood itself on the new Aston Martin Vantage Roadster, which can raise or lower in less than seven seconds. Seven seconds!

Otherwise the new 2020 Aston Vantage Roadster is the car you might expect: a 503bhp V8-engined sports car that has a top speed of 190mph, can get from 0-60mph in 3.8sec and costs £126,950. Figures not unlike the Aston Martin Vantage coupe, only now with that remarkable folding hood.

See it, and the car, in action here in our sensible, no-nonsense car review. Join us for more videos just like this one over at the Autocar YouTube channel.

Styling miss...!

This Aston has to have the most boring styling of any of the crop of highend sports or super cars on the market today. It has nothing of note, the headlights are a particular disaster. There is no sense of drama, theater, or rakishness that would make one wish to own it. The DB9, Vantage both looked fab, the Bond cars (DBS etc.) also all looked great, but this is a bit of a jelly mould, forgot to finish the clay model school of design. In this case less really is less.

Aston, you can do alot better. For that kind of money (not forgeting histoty and prestige), you should!

I am getting a bit bored with

I am getting a bit bored with the latest Aston/Ferrari/McLaren/Porsche/Lamborghini two-seat sports cars videos. Cars that are only really of interest to a rarefied few with £150k to waste on a 'jewellery' vehicle.

Has nobody heard of the excellent MX-5 which has 90% of this cars ability for 20% of the price.

What's with the flashing rear

What's with the flashing rear lights in so many of the exterior shots?

.

Its a strobe effect with the frames of the video and flickering LEDs. LED's turn on and off very quickly (quicker that the eye can see) but when it syncs with the Video Frame rate you get flashing. Bit like on old westerns when the wagon wheels sometimes seemed to go backwards.
