Superminis, city cars and mid-sized family cars dominated the list, with sales seemingly boosted by Europe-wide scrappage incentive schemes.
The Peugeot 207 was third on the Jato Dynamics list, selling 37,361 units, while the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Renault Clio completed the top five.
Ford, Opel/Vauxhall, Fiat and Peugeot all had two models each on the list, with the Focus, Astra, Punto, Panda and 308 models all appearing.
