Saab is planning to drive down the CO2 output of its entry-level 9-5 diesel.
Today, the 2.0-litre turbodiesel unit has CO2 emissions of 139g/km, but in a couple of years it should drop to 120g/km.

The emissions will eventually settle at 115g/km, a figure that could be achieved with a new engine, possibly a bought-in 1.6-litre unit.
Having emissions as low as 115g/km will put the Saab 9-5 within touching distance of the 109g/km emitted by the BMW 3-series, but Saab's figure is perhaps more impressive given the 9-5's considerable extra size and weight.

I'm so glad to hear this - I had to chop my 2007 93 Convertible for a C Class at 100k miles at Christmas as my company wouldn't buy any more Saabs. 250D has great power/emissions, but has proved to be the most unreliable car I've ever owned. Fabulous when it goes, but too small and forever in arrogant dealers for every mechanical prob;lem you can imagine.
Can't wait for it to go in 18 mnths and get another super swede

This is exactly what I think SAAB should be all about. Efficient, comfortable cars with a clean and elegant design. I'm so happy they survived.
