Peugeot's compact soft-roader is aimed at young city dwellers and will go into production on three continents

This new Peugeot 2008 concept hints at how Peugeot’s answer to the Nissan Juke will look in production later this year. It has made its debut at the Paris motor show.

The compact soft-roader takes inspiration from a trio of earlier concepts, including the Urban Crossover from Beijing in April. At 4.14m long and 1.74m wide, the high-riding 2008 is slightly longer but narrower than the Juke.

The styling borrows the Peugeot 208 supermini’s front end and raked windscreen, and it beefs up the stance with flared arches and sculpted wings. Power comes from a 110bhp turbocharged 1.2-litre triple.

The 2008 will be built in France, China and Brazil and is aimed at young city dwellers.

Another Peugeot newcomer at the Paris show is the 301, a family saloon to be built in Spain but sold in China and emerging markets, such as eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

Our Verdict

Peugeot 5008

The Peugeot 5008 is a step forward for the brand, but it is not enough to transform the MPV market

the turbo 1.2 will be great in the 208, and would be ideal for the 108 to add some sparkle that has been missing from the 107.

the 2008 looks 'different'. I imagine it will sell pretty well but not in yellow..

this makes a lot more sense than them god ugly and pointless 206/7 SW's

... it's possible to make a small cross-over type vehcile that doesn't look ill-proportioned and ugly as sin...!

I am biased I admit. I have had so many problems with this manufacturer and its sister Citroen I cant help but hate them. But being a car person I never deny something good might just happen. Certainly this isnt it. Take a Juke and Soul and shake it up and out comes this thing which they didnt even have the brass whatsits to give it a proper name like Juke or Soul. Well I hope they only make it in that colour as shown - that just might kill off the 3 clots who showed any interest

what's life without imagination

I haven't seen any sales figures to back up my comment, but it appears that the Juke is THE car to be seen in down here in SW France (for those with a relatively limited budget) at the moment - they're everywhere. So if PSA can emulate the Juke's success, it will have a hit on its hands.

Amazing - no accounting for taste! This looks quiite attractive, but like the Juke is probably too small (should be 30X based, or they should work on a prettified 3008).

I think it looks very Tiguan in profile (which is about as conventional as you can get). Also, though I understand it's in-keeping with the range, the name gives the gives the impression the car is a bit dated.

As for the comments about the Juke, it seems very popular in these parts too (northern England, that is...). And I know many people about my age 25, who pine for one, so Nissan are really doing something right at the moment.

If Peugeot can compete with the Juke they certainly have hope with  this car.The Juke is popular here in Ireland too.
