Toyota hatch gets sporting trim levels

Toyota is introducing a new ‘SR’ trim level to its Auris range, following the launch of the sporting SR180 model earlier this year.SR trim will be available on 1.6 VVT-I and 2.0 D-4D models, costing £690 over the T3 model (previously the highest spec trim level). Opting for SR trim gets you a number of tweaks, including sports suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and privacy glass. Standard equipment includes nine airbags, climate control and leather interior. Prices will start at £14,495 for the three-door Auris 1.6 SR, and range through £14,995 for the five-door 1.6 SR, £16,095 for the three-door 2.0 D-4D SR and £16,595 for the five-door diesel SR.If that’s too much to handle, the more understated TR trim has also been revised and given dual-zone air conditioning, 16-inch alloys and leather and chrome design tweaks. Available on the 1.4 and 1.6 petrols, and the 2.0-litre diesel, the Auris TR starts at £12,995.

The Toyota Auris is a spacious, but unspectacular attempt at a high quality Golf rival. Only the availability of a hybrid lifts it from obscurity
