Mazda is lining up a potential rival for Volvo’s baby XC30 SUV, likely to be called CX-3 or CX-5.

Although the car in this image uses CX-7 panels, its lower stance reveals that it’s a chopped-up mule sitting on a modified 3 platform.

That is the most likely base for the new car, which is also tipped to get Mazda’s new range of Sky-G and Sky-D powerplants.

The car is expected to appear at either the Los Angeles or Tokyo motor show at the end of 2011.Read more on the new baby Mazda SUV
