The trend for lower profile tyres is resulting in twice as many kerbing incidents as a decade ago, warns the AA.
Its Tyre Fit operation now has to replace kerb-damaged wheels in 15 per cent of call-outs for damaged tyres.
It said that taller profile tyres, popular 10 years ago, protect alloy wheels from contact with kerbstones.
