New 500 that's been scrawled on by artist Tracey Emin sells at auction
17 October 2007

A Fiat 500 with unique Tracey Emin artwork decorating its wings has sold for £42,000 at an auction in London.Described as a "moving exhibition," the Fiat 500 is named I Told You Not To and has the words "you told me not to" written on the side along with an image of two birds.Emin became famous for works such as her 1995 work Everyone I Have Ever Slept With (a tent) and My Bed (an un-made bed), which won her the Turner Prize in 1999.This is the first of four cars worked on by the English artist; the next will be auctioned before the end of the year and the remaining two will be sold in 2008. Perhaps Fiat will add Emin's designs to the 500's options list as a £32,000 extra, but we wouldn't tick that box.

Our Verdict

Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 is a deserved success story for the brand, offering bags of style, a fine drive and low costs

Diesel version of Skoda’s junior SUV is unobtrusive and undemanding, but we’d still go for the silkier petrol version of the Karoq
