Two new drawings preview the GLA's design; full reveal will be at September's Frankfurt motor show

Mercedes has released a couple of teaser sketches of its GLA SUV on the company's Facebook page.

The car, which will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, uses Mercedes' MFA architecture and is due to go on sale next year. The car has been spotted testing in recent months at the Nürburgring. The production car is expected to feature more subtle styling than the original Concept GLA seen at the Shanghai motor show.

The GLA is believed to be Mercedes' answer to the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Range Rover Evoque. It is underpinned by the same MFA architecture used on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Mercedes-Benz B-Class and Mercedes-Benz CLA.

Engines are likely to be carried over from the A-class range, while an AMG model, equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing 335bhp, is also expected.

Just saw the teaser clip that Merc have released... I think it looks pretty good, best of the German lot compared to X1 AND Q3/Q5. The GLA 45 should be awesome..especially if the additional AMG spec makes it look even closer to the concept.

Everyone keeps comapring this and BMW X1 and Q3 to the Evoque..I just dont see that the Evoque is a competitor, its like the Mini I feel..it is in its own class. Both great productsPeople buy the mini because its a mini and the evoque because its a land rover..  just sell themsleves..like Apple..lifestyle brands!

GFA based on MFA "architecture"? Similar to the CLA?

I've lost the will to try and understand Mercedes' naming system.
