A shortlist of 35 cars have been selected to compete in the coveted Car of the Year award 2012

A total of 35 cars are eligible for Europe’s most prestigious automotive accolade, the Car of the Year 2012 award (COTY).

Of the 35 cars, a shortlist of seven cars will be chosen by the ninth of January to compete for the top spot, the result of which will be announced on the fifth of March 2012.

Last year’s winner – the Nissan Leaf - became the first all-electric car to win the coveted Car of the Year title, after one of the most diverse voting processes in the award’s history.

This year’s candidates include:
