If you want to get under the skin of the new BMW 3-series, you need a decent road trip

'Three series’. It’s not the most inspiring name for a car. And finding travel inspiration in such a digit is a tricky task, too. But you can find place names with ‘three’ in them.

Cross the Channel and you’ll find Troisvillers in France and Tresjuncos in Spain, which is where we’ll head to via Sussex’s Three Cups Corner in a quest to put some serious miles beneath the wheels of the 320d that will be the best-selling Three in the UK.

Follow this captioned gallery link for all the journey highlights and stunning scenery This slightly eccentric route will put a good 1600 miles beneath the wheels of this BMW and give us a fine chance to get the measure of it before we hit Malaga, where this car is needed for the UK press launch.

The car in question is a BMW 320d sprayed a rather alluring Melbourne Red. It rides on optional 18in double-spoke alloy wheels and bears the hallmarks of the new Sport trim pack that first appeared on the latest 1-series.

Seems BMW's PR dept was keen for some long journey-type articles for the new 3-series - similar articles in Evo and on Pistonheads.

One question, has it got adaptive dampers or passive dampers?
