Porsche's American customers are going to have to wait for the 2007 model Cayenne - but here's proof that it is on the way.
The 2007 edition of the German sportscar firm's uber-SUV is likely to make its public debut at next January's Detroit Motor Show. But despite the fact that it's the first major update since the Cayenne's introduction in 2002, Porsche is said to have elected not to release it to the US market until late 2007, or even early 2008. There could be strategic reasons for this, but sales of the current model are said to have been poor (Porsche even introduced a feature-packed 'Titanium' special edition), so the delay might just be a tactic to shift existing stock.
Porsche is expected to shift the Cayenne model more towards car styling for the next edition, due to break cover in 2010. But in the meantime, it has concentrated on exterior tweaks. The front end appears more aggressive with sharper headlights, and it seems that the front overhang is slightly longer too (possibly to assist with front impact regulations).
The Turbo model gets two pairs of exhausts plus horizontal LED light units (first seen on the 911 Turbo) incorporated into the front air intakes. It will also feature wider arches and more sculpted side skirts.
