This weekend somebody has been daft enough to write my name on the side of a racing car. It’s on a Mazda MX-5, which I’ll be driving in the Britcar 24 hours, at Silverstone.

As you might expect from a race that features Ferrari 430 and Porsche 911 GT2s, the MX-5 will be in the slowest class, meaning a repeat of Autocar’s 2008 podium finish is more than unlikely.

But if we plod around and stay out of trouble, using little fuel and being light on tyres, we’ll do okay. Either way, I’m very excited and not a little nervous about it.

Our car shares a garage with two other MX-5s, one of which is raising cash for British Armed Forces Charities, which you can see more about here.

The weather looks like it’ll bring a little bit of Le Mans magic to Northamptonshire for anyone camping there. I can’t blog remotely onto this site, but will be tweeting updates and pictures when I’m not driving or sleeping, and you can follow live timing through the link on this page.
