It’s rare that news about broadcasting fills me with enthusiasm, but today is the day.

The Beeb has finally grabbed back F1 and made it very clear that it intends to show it over the web. Dominic Coles, BBC Sport director of sport rights, said: "Fans will be able to enjoy uninterrupted, state of the art and innovative coverage from BBC Sport, across all of our TV, radio and new media platforms, for the first time since 1996."

Now, I have to say I’m not that interested in watching the race live on my phone - often I don’t even have enough reception to receive a text message at the weekend - but the idea of being able to download it on iplayer and watch it at my convenience is immensely appealing. Bring it on.

It's also a great opportunity to present James Allen with a gilt-framed P45.
