Has Jaguar stolen the Frankfurt motor show headlines from under the nose of the home brands?
We’ll only find that out for sure when the show opens next Tuesday, but there’s going to have to be an awfull
big surprise if anything’s going to usurp the C-X16 concept.
This is a car that has it all – a brilliantly eye-catching exterior design, some brave flourishes (the new front grille, for instance) and a flash interior that screams exci
ement, plus an innovative (if not yet bound for production) powertrain. You can read all about it here.
It is also refreshing for having an obvious link to
the past via the E-type, without over-milking it – this is a modern interpretation of a hardcore two-seat sportscar in the vein of the Porsche 911.
As ever with a concept, there’s the conceit of whether they’ll make it. Well, it’s based on a m
dified version of the XK existing platform and has already been spied testing several times, so I’d think so.
We’re expecting a very lightly toned down version to go on sale sometime next year, with the chief modifications being to the interio
colours and the addition of a settling rear wing. In other words, nothing major. The interesting bit will be whether it goes on sale as a coupe or roadster – the spy pics would suggest the latter will come first.
Is my excitement justified –
r do you think other cars that have been uncovered already have a greater claim to being ‘star of the show'?
