No surprise that GM is doing a Opel and Vauxhall version of the Chevy Volt. The big question now is where they are going to make it.
The first versions will be made in the US. But as it uses an Astra platform surely it makes sense to build it in Britain at Ellesmere Port? You can argue about some of the so-called Voltec technology (is a 40-mile range enough?) but it's hard to argue against Britain being associated with high-tech cars.
GM will need some government incentives though. Over to you Mr Mandelson.
