I have a lot of respect for Jim Press. He, you may remember, was the man for oversaw Toyota's huge success in the US and is now co-president of Chrysler. Or the man currently attempting to keep the whole thing collapsing around him.But he's not doing himself any favours with his latest observations that Chrysler has the capacity to be the American BMW or Mercedes. Meaning a much smaller company making more upmarket cars. Eh? Pound for pound Chrysler has the weakest model line-up of just about any car maker. It has years of R and D to go just to match Honda and Toyota, let alone the upmarket Germans. And that's before you even begin to start discussing brand appeal. We'd all like to see Chrysler making better cars but it would be better if the top brass had more realistic ambitions.
