A 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A has taken the top honours at the Pebble Beach Concours, being crowned as the best car of the show.
The stunning Tipo 8A - which has reportedly had only four owners in its lifetime - beat competition from other prestigious classics to win the golden ribbon on the final day of the Concours, which forms part of the Monterey Car Week.
The Pebble Beach Concours also saw the unveiling of some illustrious new metal, including two new concept cars from BMW. The first, the 3.0 CSL Hommage R, is the re-imagining of the original 3.0 CSL Hommage concept shown earlier this year. The latest version is coloured with BMW’s Motorsport livery, and includes a system which projects the car’s speed and location onto the helmet visor of the driver.
Also new is BMW’s Concept M4 GTS. It previews a new track-focused variant of the M4 which is due to go on sale early next year, and includes an innovative new water injection system for its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine - which now produces around 460bhp. Other enhancements include OLED tail-lights, a new adjustable front splitter and rear spoiler, and an upgraded chassis.
One of the stars of the show has been Lamborghini’s new Aventador Superveloce Roadster. Production is limited to just 500 units, with each car costing £350,000 - almost £30,000 more than the Superveloce Coupé, which made its debut in Geneva earlier this year. Like the Coupé, the Superveloce Roadster is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 engine producing 740bhp. Despite weighing 50kg more than the Coupé, the Roadster takes just 2.9 seconds to reach 62mph, and has a top speed of 217mph.
Elsewhere, Hyundai also previewed the look of its upcoming Genesis Coupé with the Vision G Concept. The two-door, four-seat model is officially described as being the company’s “inspiration for its family of future premium products”. However, the concept is already badged as Genesis inside and out and features the same 5.0-litre V8 engine which already powers the Genesis saloon in the US.
McLaren’s Special Operations division showcased two bespoke 570S models at the show. Both cars were used to show off the personalisation options open to McLaren customers. The 650S Le Mans - which was revealed at Goodwood earlier this year - was also on display.
