Porsche announces 911 Targa

Porsche has completed the 911 family with this Targa version of the 997 model.

The Targa 4 and Targa 4S will be launched in November. This is the first time that the Targa has come with the wider rear body and four-wheel drive of the Carrera 4.The models' glass roof takes seven seconds to open to its maximum 500cm - and you can do that at whatever speed you like.

The glass is 1.9kg lighter than its predecessor and there's a new sealing system, wind deflector and sunblind.

The other unique feature of the Targa is its glass rear hatch, which gives access to 230 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place. The engines are unchanged: 325bhp of 3.6-litre flat-six for the Targa 4; 355bhp for the Targa 4S.

Transmission options are the six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic automatic familiar from the Carrera.

Pre-tax prices are set at £54,400 for the Targa 4 and £60,500 for the Targa 4S.
