Audi has a new chairman: 43-year-old Bavarian Rupert Stadler. The former head of finance and organisation at Audi was appointed during a VW Group board meeting yesterday. He beat off the challenge of Jochem Heizmann, the head of production, to succeed Martin Winterkorn.
Stadler graduated from Augsburg University with a degree in business management. He joined Audi in 1990 and become a board member in 2003. His new role becomes effective on 1 January. According to Audi, however, he will retain his former roles too.
Winterkorn (right) will also be multi-tasking. As well as heading up parent company, the Volkswagen Group, he looks like retaining a big say in operations at Audi, having been appointed head of a supervisory board at Ingolstadt. He replaces Bernd Pischetsreider in both positions.
