Hyundai reveals MPV concept and new 2.2-litre diesel engine

Hyundai will slot a seven-seat MPV into its model range late in 2010, and this HED-5 concept gives a strong clue to the production car’s styling .Based on the Golf-sized i30 platform, the new seven-seater will be built in Hyundai’s new factory in the Czech Republic and be powered by a new 2.2-litre diesel, also previewed in the concept. In the metal, the HED-5 looks modern and sporty, marking another step forward for Hyundai’s new design language.Tune out some of the more showy-features like the exaggerated rear-end styling and pillarless profile and this is effectively the production car. The concept’s all-new 2.2-litre diesel is slated for production in single-turbo form with a likely power output of 170bhp. Expect the new diesel engine to debut in the facelifted Santa Fe 4x4 next year.A higher output, twin-turbo version boasting close to the concept’s 210bhp is slated for production in “the first half of 2011”.
