With 617bhp to call upon, it’s capable of rocketing to 62mph in just 3.8 seconds, and on to maximum 206mph. It’s got only one natural rival in Lamborghini’s Murcielago LP640 Roadster, and even that’s a supercar of an altogether more intense and demanding kind. And, as Chris says, the SLR Roadster is actually a more convincing car than the SLR coupe.“This is the ultimate San Tropez cruiser,” he says. “It’s got an incredibly relaxing powertrain; you just stick it in drive and off you go. In fact, it’s the car Mercedes and McLaren should have been building from the off.”
