First photo of Europe's version of the Volt leaks out

This is the first official pic of the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera, the European version of the Chevrolet Volt, released ahead of the car’s official unveiling at this week’s Geneva show.

Although the Vauxhall Ampera is based on the Chevrolet Volt, the car's front and rear have been restyled by Opel’s designers. The shot shows the Ampera’s unique front end for the first time, clearly revealing the GTC concept-inspired slot intakes.

General Motors claims that the Vauxhall Ampera will return up to 176mpg, while its CO2 emissions will dip below 40g/km.

The Ampera – which could eventually be built at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory – goes on sale in the second half of 2011.
