New Mazda family hatchback to be priced from £15,100; saloon from £16,630

Mazda has announced prices for its new Mondeo-rivalling family car, the Mazda 6, which hits showrooms at the end of year, in both hatchback and saloon form.The Mazda 6 hatch will start from £15,100 for the 1.8-litre - £920 more than the current entry level model - with the range continuing through 2.0- and 2.5-litre models beginning at £16,630 and £19,630 respectively.A 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel unit will be introduced in early 2008 as the only oil-burner in the range, starting at £15,620 – only £350 more than the 119bhp model it replaces. The range-topping Mazda 6 2.0D Sport will set you back £20,320; the intermediate TS2 and TS models will cost £18,420 and £17,220.Prefer your new Mazda with a boot? Saloon prices begin at £16,630 for the 2.0 TS, £17,830 for the 2.0 TS2 and £20,680 for the 2.5 SL. Diesel saloon models come in TS2 or SL trim at £18,420 and £21,320.Finally, the all-important estate arrives in March 2008 with a reduced premium of £700 over hatchback prices, from the current £1000. So the new Mazda 6 estate starts at £17,330 for the 2.0-litre TS and stops at £20,330 for the 2.5 Sport, with the diesel range beginning at £17,940 for the 2.0D TS and ending at £22,040 for the range-topping Sports Luxury diesel.
