Lamborghini will have a hybrid model on sale by 2015, according to company boss Stephan Winkelmann.
Speaking in an interview with German magazine Automobilewoche, Winkelmann said the first hybrid Lamborghini would use a small electric motor to propel the car at low speeds but would switch to either a V10 or V12 petrol engine thereafter.
Winkelmann also ruled out following in Audi or Mercedes’ footsteps and building an all-electric car.
He also suggested that the Gallardo would be easier to use as a test-bed model for the technology than a Murcielago.
Ferrari is also known to be preparing a hybrid car, with insiders hinting at a 2015 on-sale date.
