First Drive: "XKR's a star"

Cash-strapped Jaguar has come up with a real star in its new XKR, according to our First Drive.Steve Sutcliffe says the 4.2-litre supercharged cat is the firm's 'best car for decades, possibly ever'. Our Editor-at-large describes the XKR as 'a complete package, a machine anyone interested in spending the thick end of £100k on an SL55 should take a good long look at'.

Jag couldn't have picked a better time to deliver a belter - it's the most troubled manufacturer in Ford's premium brand line-up, and there have been recent rumours that it could even be for sale, although it now seems more likely that Aston Martin will change hands instead.

Read Sutcliffe's full verdict here and don't miss the September 6 issue of Autocar to see the XKR take on BMW's more expensive supercoupe, the M6.
