GM claims production saloon record for 542 bhp bruiser.Cadillac’s forthcoming Cadillac CTS-V saloon has completed a lap of the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7min 59.32sec, according to the American company. Although nearly 40 seconds adrift of the time recently set by the Nissan GT-R, the time puts the CTS-V at the top of the rankings for production saloons. Cadillac says the CTS-V was in the same spec as final production versions, meaning a supercharged 6.2 litre V8 that puts out 542 bhp. The final road car will also be available with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions.Production of the CTS-V begins in the Autumn for the American market, but right-hand drive versions won’t reach the UK until next year. The front end looks much better in "the flesh" than in the pictures.

So if this is the fastest 4-door to run the 'ring should it replace the M5 as the official Nurburgring Taxi?

Can a Caddy really do that job?
