Prices confirmed for new hatchback; 230bhp version gets green light

Alfa has announced pricing and details of its new Mito hatchback, and confirmed that a hot GTA model will follow the model’s UK launch in January 2009.The Mito GTA will use a direct-injection, turbocharged 1750cc petrol engine producing 230bhp. Luca De Meo, CEO of Alfa Romeo, maintains that the GTA will be the fastest car in its class, and “capable of matching the Alfa 8C supercar between 80km/h and 120km/h.”We’ve already driven the £14,775, 155bhp Mito 1.4TB Veloce, which tops the range of three 1.4-litre petrol engines that will be available from launch. Others will include a detuned, 120bhp, turbocharged version for £12,175, and a non-turbocharged 95bhp 1.4 unit that will power the entry-level Mito with a starting price of £10,975. There will also be two diesel units: a 90bhp, 1.3-litre JTDm, which will cost £12,175, and a 120bhp, 1.6-litre JTDm with a list price of £13,975.Three trim levels will be available, starting with the base Turismo and followed by Lusso and Veloce. All Mitos will get air conditioning, LED rear lights and seven airbags. Lusso models add a carbonfibre effect dash, a leather steering wheel, 16-inch alloys, fog lights and remote audio controls on the steering wheel. Veloce ups that kit list again to include a Blue&Me phone connection, 17-inch alloys, a front armrest, a rear spoiler, white sports dials and red brake callipers.
