13 April 2010

McLaren Automotive boss Ron Dennis has described the Bugatti Veyron as "pig ugly".

Talking to Arabian Business magazine, Dennis said: "The Bugatti Veyron is a complete piece of junk. I think it is… I can look at a Bugatti and I think it is pig ugly."

At last someone with a set of balls willing to say it as it is!

BTW, I do like the Veyron for what it is.

And I thought I was the only one who thought the Vernon looked like Mr Blobby without the spots! Mind you, maybe Ron shouldn't be throwing too many stones considering, styling wise at least, the MP-1-2-3-4-5 or whatever it's called is the work of a rank amateur...

Ron Dennis is right on the money about the looks. The Veyron is an engineering achievement and that's it. The use of the iconic archway Bugatti grill in a contemporary design is incongruous and a real mistake. The rest of the car is good, particularly the rear end. The pig-ugly remark, while subjective, isn't offhand, the front end really is upset by that porcine snout.

The McLaren F1 and MP4 are better looking cars.

I agree with englishteacher - the Veyron looks good , except for the grill, which looks stamped into the front. The best Veyron I've seen was online and in a one block colour (white) it looked stunning and the front grill blended away a little better.

I can't get excited by the mp-4- the outside is just meh. The inside though, is a masterpiece. Would have been nice to have seen the razored lines of the McLaren F1 more apparent on the outside of the MP-4

- Can't help but think this is all a bit of a publicity stunt- lets say whatever blasts the biggest noise and get some attention for the brand. I just wish they had a better looking car to mouth off with

Interesting. Having spent quite a bit of time in the UAE I can say that I have never seen so many Veyrons anywhere in the world. So clearly the oil-rich boys love them!

The Veyron certainly isn`t the best looking car in the world, but neither is it the ugliest by far. Has Ron seen a Gumpert Apollo? At least the Veyron looks distinctive and not bland like the MP thingy.

I just think Ron's comment just adds to his own underlying view that the Veyron is an irrelevance and is far less of an achievement (technical, engineering and performance wise) than the F1 was.

13 April 2010

He's not wrong, but on the other hand, the new McLaren is soul-crushingly bland.

13 April 2010

I think he's probably the only person who has the right to say that, considering that the mclaren f1 is still the fastest normally aspirated engined car in the world

13 April 2010

I really like the Veyron, particularly the Pur Sang and Nocturne.

Not just you, and Ron is right, Veyron isn't a looker at all.
