Britain's most banned driver jailed

Britain's most convicted driver has been sent to prison again - after he was caught driving while banned for the 48th time.

Jamie Manderson from Swindon has been disqualified from driving every year since 1988 and he has nearly 200 previous convictions. In June he was recognised by a police officer as he parked a BMW outside his house. Manderson admitted not only the offence of driving while disqualified, but also driving without insurance.

Magistrates in Swindon jailed him for five months and extended his driving ban for a further two years - although he's clearly paid little attention to punishments like that in the past...

Manderson's lawyer Rob Ross said, "Jamie is a likeable idiot, really. He suffers from a very serious addiction to cars. He just can't leave them alone. He just doesn't understand the words 'don't drive'."
