New car shown at Goodwood; 0-62mph comes in 3.3sec, and top speed is 203mph, making this the fastest Audi convertible yet

Audi has revealed the R8 Spyder V10 Plus as the final addition to its R8 supercar range. The car is on display on Audi's stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Plus, developed by Audi Sport, has 69bhp and 15lb ft more than the standard R8 Spyder V10, giving it a total of 602bhp and 413b ft.

It's also 25kg lighter, thanks to the use of carbonfibre-reinforced plastic on its interior and exterior. The means the Plus weighs 1587kg, which is 167kg more than the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder and 83kg less than the Porsche 911 Turbo

"For us this is a combination of a super sports car with exclusive open-top driving pleasure," said Audi Sport boss Stephan Winkelmann. "It's something that for us is the best combination you could have in a very exclusive, very fast car.

"We increased the torsional rigidity by 50% in comparison to the predecessor, which is good for handling, acoustic sound and crash safety. This is a car that you can drive at every opportunity."

The Plus's increased power and decreased weight equate to a 0.3sec improvement 0-62mph time and 6mph increase in top speed over the regular V10 Spyder, at 3.3sec and 206mph. 

The Plus is marked out by carbonfibre trim across the exterior in place of the standard car's gloss black trim. Its trapezoidal exhausts are also split into four separate pipes, in place of two larger, undivided pipes. The Plus also gets standard bucket seats and ceramic brakes. 

Audi confirmed that no further variants on the R8 will be added to the range after the R8 Spyder V10 Plus, quelling speculation of a lightweight variant akin to the Huracán Performante

The R8 V10 Spyder Plus is priced from £147,470, a £15,000 premium over the regular R8 V10 Spyder. Order books open at the end of this month, with first deliveries coming soon after.

I can't wait to see it in person!

Well, that was not the case when the Gen 2 R8 was launched a few years ago. The Ingolstadt supersports car looks a bit less stylishly appealing than the evergreen Gen 1 R8.

More edgy, rough and perhaps a bit fussy design-wise. Those were my thoughts.

Until I was invited to attend the Gen 2 R8 Spyder launch in Singapore - specifically at this year's Singapore Motorshow. Dressed in red, it looked stunning inside out :O and best of all, one of the most comfortable and ergonomic supersports car interiors!

Wow... and so my opinion has changed :D The Audi R8 plus is gonna be better for sure, and yes I'm salivating over it XD
