500bhp C30 is Volvo's SEMA star

Volvo has unleashed its C30 custom specials at the SEMA modified car show in Las Vegas - and power is the name of the game.

The Evolve C30 AWD, Heico C30 and IPD SEMA C30 are predictably outlandish, since Volvo sees the C30 as the model that could make its image more funky and attractive to the youth market.

The shocking yellow Evolve is the most powerful of the bunch, with a twin-turbocharged engine producing over 500bhp. That's transmitted through a four-wheel-drive system, enormous tyres and competition suspension. The interior seems to feature bucket seats and a mock roll cage structure.

The Heico was developed by a German tuner and a snowboard manufacturer. It's also four-wheel drive (but only 300bhp), and it sports a camouflage paint scheme, as well as a portable GPS and custom-designed snowboards.

The IPD C30 adopts Swedish blue and yellow. It's still front-wheel drive, but its engine produces 384bhp - not sure how that would behave on a B-road... Some of its best tricks are inside - it features a touch screen control system and a heads-up display. But its star turn has to be a pair of wild gullwing doors.
