Car maker says decision to end Datsun name means it can focus on “core models”

Nissan has confirmed it will stop producing cars under the Datsun name, just nine years after resurrecting the brand to sell value-friendly models for emerging markets.

Nissan says it will focus on "core models and segments that bring the most benefit to customers, dealer partners and the business". This, it says, it part of a new global transformation strategy.

Nissan says it will focus on "core models and segments that bring the most benefit to customers, dealer partners and the business".

I'm assuming that means concentrating on higher priced SUVs rather than anything more modestly priced for the less well off consumer.

I never knew Nissan bought Datsun. I thought Nissan was just a rebrand of Datsun as it had got a bad name for cars rusting. Did not know Nissan existed before that. Well you learn something new everyday.

Sad news. But I still hope that production of the Datsun Go, Go+ and Redigo will continue and expand as Nissan Go, Go+, Redigo, and Ghosn Gone.
